Dyson VR Demo lets you try out its products at home

British home appliances maker Dyson has some fabulous products like its V12 Detect Slim cordless vacuum cleaner and Supersonic hair dryer.

However, Dyson products are not cheap. So, it might be difficult to put your hard-earned cash on these products unless you are able to try them. And with the Covid-19 pandemic still raging on, this might be an issue if you want to head down to the physical stores.

As such, Dyson has rolled out a virtual reality (VR) store whereby you can trial, test and understand its products in the comfort of your home.

Known simply as Dyson Demo VR, it is said to be the first virtual store of its kind and is available now through the Oculus store in Singapore.

Dyson Demo VR is based on the same visualisation and simulation technologies that Dyson engineers use to prototype, test and develop new products in the lab. As such, users can get the most authentic product experience as they can virtually.

Mr Sean Newmarch, Dyson’s e-commerce director, said: “We can show people a virtual product operating in a virtual room but using the actual product software – it doesn’t get much more realistic than that.”

Users can “try out” Dyson’s Supersonic hair dryer, Corrale straightener and Airwrap styler on a variety of hair types. In addition, they can take a look at each Dyson product to learn more about it.

In the future, Dyson plans to have an entire virtual shopping experience in the Demo VR itself whereby you can try and buy a Dyson product as well as the ability to talk to a Dyson sales person. However, there is no timeline when these features will be included.

Unfortunately, you will need to have a VR headset, such as an Oculus Quest 2, in order to access the Dyson Demo VR. Dyson recognises this downer. Mr Newmarch said they are looking at more accessible technologies such as augmented reality to allow more people to experience Dyson’s products virtually.

However, he was quick to stress that this new Demo VR is just part of Dyson’s growing focus on direct-to-consumer retail experience both online and office. The Demo VR will complement Dyson’s 318 existing physical Dyson Demo stores worldwide, with 30 newly opened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Plus, there are 23 more planned through the course of 2022.
