Samsung announces Feb 9 Galaxy Unpacked event and what to expect

South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced its latest Galaxy Unpacked event to be on Feb 9, 11pm SGT, and will be live-streamed on samsung.com/sg/. In a press release, Samsung says it will “set an epic new standard for smartphones with the most noteworthy S series ever created”.

We can probably easily surmise from the above statement that we will see the flagship Galaxy S22 smartphone series. So, similar to last year’s S21 range, we expect to see the “entry” Galaxy S22, “mid-range” S22+ and the top-of-the-line S22 Ultra.

But the word “noteworthy” means the new S22 series is probably going to incorporate Samsung’s now-defunct Note series in terms of form factor and maybe a built-in stylus. And Samsung is not even hiding it, as we can see from the video below in which two phones become one.

A built-in stylus will make absolute sense, since there is stylus support for S21 Ultra last year. While a phone case that houses the stylus is available, it is not the most convenient solution. Plus, it means extra costs to the consumers.

In a blog post, Samsung Electronics’ president and head of MX business Dr TM Roh wrote that Samsung understands customers love the Note series and its S Pen. It is something Samsung has not forgotten and thus will bring them together in one device.

“With it (new Galaxy device), you will own the night – taking the best and brightest photos and videos you’ve ever captured with a phone. You will also dominate the day with power, speed and tools that can’t be found elsewhere. You will enjoy cutting edge-innovations made possible thanks to the smartest Galaxy experience yet,” said Dr Roh.

We think this all points to the merger of the S and Note series with the S22 device. So, stay tuned on Feb 9, 11pm SGT, to find out more.
