Fraudulent transactions have been quite the bane of everyone’s existence ever since the rise of online scams, and it is reassuring to know how Apple has successfully stopped over $9 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions in the past 5 years.
Creating a Secure Experience on the App Store
In 2024 alone, the App Store blocked over $2 billion in fraudulent transactions, and this is deeply reflective of the App Store’s continued efforts in providing the most secure experience for users. Apple has a very solid antifraud system in place that ensures that malicious developer and customer accounts alike are quickly flagged and removed. Last year, Apple terminated more than 146,000 developer accounts and rejected an additional 139,000 developer enrolments over fraud concerns.
Over the past month, Apple has prevented nearly 4.6 million attempts to install or launch apps that are distributed illegally outside the App Store or approved third-party marketplaces.

App Review
This is something that not a lot of people are aware of – a member of Apple’s App Review team carefully vets any app before it is approved to be on the App Store. This system involves both human review and automated processes to detect potentially harmful activity on apps. In 2024, App Review removed more than 37,000 apps for fraudulent activity – making the App Store that much safer for users.
Payment and Credit Card Fraud
Something that is of a huge concern for users is definitely protection against payment fraud. Whenever you make a purchase with Apple Pay, a device-specific number and unique transaction code is generated, so that your card details are never stored on device or on Apple servers. Apple equips developers to payment technologies such as Apple Pay and StoreKit, which are deployed by over 420,000 apps to provide users with a secure way to make purchases on the App Store.
