What to expect from Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on 11 Aug

Samsung has announced its next Galaxy Unpacked event with a “Get ready to unfold” teaser title. With Covid-19 pandemic still raging on, the Galaxy Unpacked will be again be a virtual affair with the event streaming live on samsung.com/sg at 10pm SGT on 11 Aug.

Traditionally, the Aug Unpacked event has been always about the Galaxy Note series – Samsung’s flagship smartphone with stylus. However, this year might be the first that we will not be seeing a new Note model.

AGE OF FOLDABLES
Instead, we can look forward to the next generation of Galaxy Fold Z foldable smartphones. In other words, the rumoured Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 will be ready to be unfolded that day.

There will be not much difference in terms of design for the Z Fold 3 compared to the Z Fold 2, according to serial leaker Evan Blass.

The Z Fold 3 is expected to have a 6.23-inch cover display and a 7.55-inch foldable display, so you can switch easily between a normal smartphone and a mini-tablet by folding and unfolding. Both displays are rumoured to feature 120Hz refresh rate for smoother browsing and gameplay.

In addition, the new Z Fold is expected to support Samsung S Pen and S Pen Pro styluses.

There are also murmurs that Samsung will be finally launching the S Pen Pro stylus. First unveiled in Jan’s Galaxy Unpacked event, the new Bluetooth stylus has since dropped off the radar.

We wonder if the S Pen Pro stylus will be an optional accessory for the Z Fold 3 or will the new foldable smartphone has a dedicated slot to house the new stylus that comes with the smartphone?

One thing for sure is that the Z Flip 3 will not support the stylus. This clamshell form-factor smartphone is again expected to be no different from its predecessor, Z Flip 2.

However, it is expected to have a two-tone colour design with its 6.7-inch foldable display is expected to come with 120Hz refresh rate as well.

SMARTWATCH
In addition, we will definitely see the launch of the much-anticipated Galaxy Watch 4 or whatever it might be called.

Revealed by Samsung during MWC 2021 in Jun, the new Galaxy watch will be the first smartwatch to run the new unified Wear OS platform with the One UI Watch interface.

Previous Galaxy Watch smartwatches run on Tizen OS which is limited in apps and services. But with this unified platform, the Galaxy Watch 4 will get Google Maps and Google Play Store. Thus, users can have access to more watch faces and other third-party health apps.

One more thing – a new pair of Galaxy Buds 2 true wireless earbuds is expected to be launched too. Regardless, we will know what products will be unveiled come 11 Aug, 10pm SGT, on samsung.com/sg.
