Fold devices are definitely not as common as your flip or regular form factor devices. But will I finally fold into this form factor, especially with the bigger internal screen after using it for a few weeks?
It might not seem like a big deal, but the weight reduction in the Galaxy Z Fold6 actually makes a difference. The device now feels more natural to hold, as its dimensions are much closer to those of other brands’ offerings.
Screen
The Galaxy Z Fold6 now has a bigger 6.3-inch cover display, so it’s a bit easier to type with two hands and feels less cramped. I really like how compact and pocket-friendly the new design is.
The crease still looks about the same if you compare it with its predecessor —it’s invisible when you’re looking straight at the screen but shows up from an angle. When it’s really bright, the screen gets up to 2,600 nits, making it easy to use outside, though that’s when the crease is most noticeable. But what do you expect – it’s a fold phone, guys.
AI features
For creative projects, the inner screen is like a big canvas for Samsung’s wildest new AI feature: sketch to image. No need for prompts—just draw a rough sketch of whatever you want to add to a photo, and the AI will turn it into a realistic part of your image. The results can be hilarious or unexpectedly convincing – definitely more fun than anything else!
Usability
Multitasking on the big screen is a breeze, the build quality is top-notch for foldables, and the battery easily lasts a day or more. If you’re into productivity and want to use your device as a full-on work machine, Samsung DeX is a real standout feature.
With its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and 12GB of RAM, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has more than enough power for running apps side by side and handling intense gaming. Plus, thanks to the larger vapour chamber, you’re expected to get better sustained performance.
Camera
On the camera side of things, there’s a new sensor for the 12MP ultra-wide camera to let in more light. Other than that, you’re getting the same 50MP main camera and 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom from the Galaxy Z Fold5. Up front, you’ve got the same 10MP selfie camera and 4MP under-display camera for when you’re using the main screen.
Images captured by the device are crisp and colours are vivid without looking overly saturated. Dynamic range is also commendable. Bright skies not being overblown and shadows still maintain good details. While taking closeup images, subjects come in focus quickly without hunting, ensuring your subject is in focus.
Conclusion
The user base for Fold devices is definitely super niche but if you’re looking at a super huge screen that folds up nicely to fit in your pocket this could be what you’re looking for. With the integration of the latest AI features and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 pushing the device, being productive and having fun at the same time is now possible with power users.
