RIP, HomePod

Apple has confirmed that the original HomePod will be discontinued.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple said that the ‌HomePod‌ (US$299) will continue to be available (while supplies last) through the Apple Online Store and physical stores in countries selling it.

‌HomePod mini‌ has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers amazing sound, an intelligent assistant, and smart home control all for just US$99. We are focusing our efforts on ‌HomePod mini‌. We are discontinuing the original ‌HomePod‌, it will continue to be available while supplies last through the Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple will provide ‌HomePod‌ customers with software updates and service and support through Apple Care.

Apple

The HomePod was universally acclaimed for its superb audio output but it was deem too expensive and not smart enough compared to some of the offerings in the market.

In addition, the HomePod was never sold in Singapore and the HomePod mini is still not available here yet. There is no word when the HomePod mini will be available in Singapore. But the HomePod definitely will never be officially sold here.

Started out with dreams to become a street photographer, Trevor Tan somehow became a tech journalist with over 16 years of consumer tech experience. Maybe he plays too much video games and buys too many new gadgets.
