AI Generated Content Is Taking Over And We’re Not Surprised

Someday, there’s gonna be an app that’s like TikTok but all the content is made by AI. It’ll be generated on the fly to keep people hooked.

OK so I grew up on the internet and it’s like one of the biggest things that made me who I am today. I had a computer with internet in my room as a teenager and it gave me access to all kinds of stuff I shouldn’t have seen at that age. But it shaped my culture, my politics and how I interact with people. I’ve always been a fan of the internet and what it brings. But lately, I’ve been thinking about how I would feel if my own kids had the same kind of access to the internet that I did. It’s a tough question.

YouTube creators have come up with a bunch of ways to get parents and kids to watch their videos and the ads that come with them. One way is to just steal other people’s content. For example, if you search for “Peppa Pig” on YouTube, you get like 10 million results and mostly from the official Peppa Pig channel, but there’s one from an unverified channel called Play Go Toys that you might not even notice unless you’re looking for it.

I want them to have the same opportunities to explore and express themselves, but the internet is a different place now. And it’s not just my kids, I see little kids everywhere with screen. It’s like part of me wants to be a backwards zoomer and unplug them, but I’m not their parent so whatever. I’ve seen friends and family’s kids watching Peppa Pig and nursery rhymes on YouTube and it makes them happy, so who am I to judge?

There are already so many AI generated content that flood Youtube Kids with nursery rhymes and strange Peppa Pig renditions. I won’t be surprised if there’s even more AI driven entertainment in the pipeline.
