One of the most exciting and revolutionary updates to the iPhone 14 Pro series (at least in my opinion), is the Dynamic Island. What a magical new way to experience iPhone – say hello to multitasking at a higher level unbeknownst to Apple lovers.
A new home for all your notifications
A NEW PLACE FOR ALL YOUR NOTIFICATIONS
All of your alerts and system notifications are now housed in one dynamic and beautiful pill-shaped notch right at the top of your iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max. The Dynamic Island expands seamlessly to notify you without interrupting the app you are using – and you can even tap on it to get more information without exiting your current app – such as the model of your AirPods or the device you are using with AirPlay.
Control your music easily with a tap
LIVE ACTIVITIES – ANYWHERE, ANYTIME
On the go and want to quickly skip to the next song? Dynamic Island has your back. You can now easily track your live activities with Dynamic Island while on your Home Screen or using another app. Now Playing is compatible with Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, NPR One, Overcast, Pandora, SoundCloud and Stitcher – so you can view the album art and skip to the next song seamlessly just by tapping on Dynamic Island. FaceTime helps you keep track of the call time, and Maps allows you to keep updated on your next turn.
An immersive and interactive experience
INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE ALL AROUND
On top of easily controlling your music from Dynamic Island, you can now tap and hold for more controls such as FaceTime camera effects, pause or cancel a timer, and even check if you’re still screen-recording. If you’d prefer to go back to the app, simply tap on it. Dynamic Island also gives you a more holistic experience using your iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max – it is so intuitive that it can fluidly expand into different shapes using uniquely crafted animations and transitions. It also now houses Face ID. Cute.
Multitaskers, rejoice
MULTITASK TO YOUR HEART’S CONTENT
If you thought that is all that Dynamic Island can do – think again. You can also interact with two activities at the same time within Dynamic Island. Mind-blowing. Dynamic Island playfully adapts and bubbles out into two elements that support the same interactive taps. You can touch and hold either activity to get more information, or control the app from Dynamic Island. Small, but powerful.
A new way to receive calls while on your Home Screen
COMING SOON
While incoming calls from third party apps using CallKit such as WhatsApp, Google Voice, Instagram and Skype fully leverage on the Dynamic Island experience, outgoing calls currently only shows just an icon. This will be addressed in a software update coming later this year. The full Live Activities API will also be available later this year, opening up more opportunities for developers to harness the full power of Dynamic Island such as live sports scores, ride sharing, food delivery, fitness workouts and more.
