Crash Detection – New
One of the most reassuring introductions to the iPhone 14 series is the Crash Detection. iPhone 14 can detect if you are unfortunately in a severe car crash, and call emergency services and notify your emergency contacts.
How iPhone feels, hears and measures a crash is truly remarkable.

The iPhone measures and detects sudden speed shifts with a new high g-force accelerometer that senses extreme accelerations or decelerations up to 256 Gs. The barometer can also detect pressure changes caused by deploying airbags in a crash, protecting the impacted driver and/or passenger.

The iPhone is equipped with a high dynamic range gyroscope picks up on drastic changes in a car’s orientation, and the microphone can identify the extreme sound levels of a collision.

Engineered with advanced motion algorithms backed by public crash data from accidents, one can be reassured that Crash Detection is as accurate as possible. I definitely don’t wish for anyone to ever need to be in a situation that will deploy the Crash Detection, but it’s reassuring to know that Apple has our interests and safety covered to the best of its abilities.

Main Camera – Upgraded
The one that most have been waiting for – a NEW main camera and improved image processing to enhance photography and allow you to capture more vivid and sensational shots in all kinds of light – especially low light. Personally, low light photography on the previous versions of iPhone has always been a huge pain point for a lot of us (myself included), so this is a welcome change.

A new Main camera features a bigger sensor and a way larger aperture that lets in 49% more light. Witness the prowess of the brand new Photonic Engine which merges the best pixels from multiple exposures at an earlier stage to preserve much more image data to deliver more vibrant and lifelike colours and stunning detailed textures in low light situations. Action Mode – New
One of the pain points for budding filmmakers looking to go lean on equipment was always that smartphones can’t deliver the quality that heavy and bulky cameras can. Well, now you can. With Action mode, you can now capture smooth moving footage on your iPhone without having to bring a gimbal to stabilise your device. You can also record in 4K at 24 fps – the same frame rate you see in movies. This is possibly the ‘highest-quality video‘ in a smartphone. Wow.
