Social game, Huat Pals, returns this Lunar New Year with new characters and in-app activities as Google Pay welcomes the Year of the Rabbit. The third edition of the well-loved game runs from today till 5 February 2023. This year, users can look forward to collecting new in-game goodies and more fun ways to earn abundant rewards via Google Pay.
Huat Pals has become a highly anticipated moment around Lunar New Year – and guess what? It’s back as the festive season returns in full swing! As people resume house visits, the social factor has been expanded with new Huat Pals, new in-app games such as Huat Scanner, and more bountiful rewards with merchant partners.
Collect Lunar New Year goodies and be rewarded
In the spirit of family reunions and gatherings, Google Pay is also inviting users on house visits to collect goodies – like the Carrot, Tart and Ingot – with any eligible transaction made over the next two weeks. Once all ve goodies are collected, users will be able to win one of three attractive prizes:
- A scratch card worth up to $88.88; or
- A Pixel 7 Pro worth $1,299; or
- A pair of Pixel Buds Pro worth $299.
Players can collect a goodie each time they complete any of the following actions on Google Pay, up to a maximum of five times a day:
Making eligible transactions above $5 to merchants via:
- Tap to pay
- Pay via FavePay QR
- Pay via PayNow QR or UEN
- Purchase movie tickets via the Google Pay app
- Splitting an expense with at least two people, and receiving a minimum of $3 from each of them
- Gifting goodies to friends and receive one bonus goodie per unique friend you gift
Google Pay debuts its Huat Scanner this Lunar New Year. Using image recognition technology, users are tasked to use the Google Pay app to scan items that they will come across during house-visits – think red packets, oranges, pineapples, coee cups, and paper lanterns. Each successful scan will earn players a goodie, or paner vouchers from local merchants such as Flash Coffee and Guardian.
That’s not all! Users can also stand a chance to win more rewards from brands like Fairprice, Klook and Sephora by answering Huat Riddles on Google Pay.
Huat Scanner and Huat Riddles will be made available at random each day. Users can refer to the homepage to look out for the unique challenges of the day.

To get started on earning these rewards, download the Google Pay app here, available on both the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS).
With each transaction, players will also join Tuffy to visit 28 Huat Pals, and unlock each meetup in their Huat Pals album which can be accessed via the homescreen. Users can also send in-app messages to share the different Huat Pals that they have collected. PS: Watch out for the rare pals and there may be a familiar Lenny and BB-bunny face!
