Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe Review: An art piece of a charger

With working from home being default till mid-June, you might be want to have a more organised working space.

And if you are using the Apple iPhone 12 series, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro, the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe will certainly help to streamline your work desk.

SPECS

DESIGN
As its name literally implies, this is a 3-in-1 wireless charging dock that comes with Apple’s MagSafe charger.

Before I go on, let me explain a bit about MagSafe. Ever experienced putting a smartphone on a wireless charging pad overnight only to realise the next morning it was not charged due to some bad placement?

Apple looks to solve this issue with MagSafe. As this standard uses magnets, it ensures no loose connection between device and charging pad.

FOR
+ Sleek and “Apple-like” design performance
+ Able to charge iPhone 12 series smartphone, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro simultaneously
+ Convenient one-piece design without need of assembly

AGAINST
– Expensive
– MagSafe-only means cannot charge other smartphones at optimum speed

And if Apple is to design its own wireless charging dock, it might probably look like something like the BoostCharge Pro.

This multi-device wireless charging dock looks more exquisite compared to the other 3-in-1 chargers by Belkin. My review unit comes in white, with black version also available.

It has a white circular base with white silicone coating. In the centre top of this base is the wireless charging pad for your AirPods Pro (or AirPods 2).

Behind the charging pad is slanting silver T stand that houses the MagSafe charger on the left side and an Apple Watch charging puck on the right.

It just looks so minimalist and elegant. I think it might even pass off as some art piece if you put it in a postmodern art museum.

The best part? No assembly needed. Take it out of the box, plug in the power adapter’s cord, turn on the power switch and you are ready to charge your Apple devices.

PERFORMANCE
To charge all three devices, simply put them on their respective charging pads.

When you place your AirPods Pro on the base correctly, a white LED light will indicate charging is going on.

For the iPhone 12 and Apple Watch, you just need to make sure the magnetic connection is “locked” in. And both iPhone 12 (with MagSafe case on) and Apple Watch will be nicely elevated and perched securely on their respective magnetic charging pads.

The T stand is slanted at an angle of 65 degrees. As a result, both iPhone and Apple Watch are angled at a nice optimal viewing angle.

In addition, you can easily change the orientation of your iPhone 12 from portrait to landscape when you want to watch video while still charging the phone.

Not to mention, you can charge your Apple Watch regardless of the type of watch band you are using unlike its cousin – Belkin BoostCharge 3-in-1 Wireless Charger – which I reviewed last month. Closed loop watch bands will get in the way of the AirPods charging pad due to its close proximity with the charging puck in its cousin.

Thanks to its elevated charging puck, the charging Apple Watch will not interfere with the AirPods Pro whether an open loop or a closed loop watch band is being used.

On the downside, this dock only caters to iPhone 12 series, as it uses a MagSafe charger. So, you cannot charge other smartphones (not even iPhone 11 series). Something I can do with its close cousin.

That said, no one is stopping you from using the wireless charging pad for AirPods Pro to charge your iPhone 11 or Android smartphone instead.

Not only are you losing the charging pad to charge your Apple AirPods Pro, it is only limited to 5W. Thus, it will take longer to charge your smartphone. By comparison, the MagSafe charger can charge your iPhone 12 at up to 15W.

Perhaps, the biggest downer of the BoostCharge Pro is its hefty price tag. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, S$209 is a lot to pay – even for a beautiful dock that charges three Apple devices at the same time.

However, there are people, like myself, who just love sleek devices. And if you are going to spend a lot of time at your home (or office) work desk, you will rather spend it on something cool to look at.

VERDICT
Whether you are working from home or in the office (hopefully in the near future), the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe is the elegant Apple multi-device wireless charger to get. Especially if you have the Apple’s trinity of iPhone 12, Apple Watch and AirPods Pro.
