Xiaomi launches its 12 series flagship smartphones globally

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship smartphones globally with the 12 series after its initial launch in China last Dec.

As you might have noticed, Xiaomi has dropped the “Mi” moniker and went for the numbers instead. It is always a tongue twister to say Xiaomi Mi anyway.

Running Android 12, the Xiaomi 12 smartphone series consists of the entry 12X, mid-range 12, and the top-tier 12 Pro. All the displays of the 12 series feature 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals.

Both 12X and 12 models come with a 6.28-inch (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) OLED displays. But the 12 Pro has a 6.73-inch LTPO AMLOED display with a higher resolution of 3,200 x 1,440 pixels. All 12 series models feature under-display fingerprint sensor.

Both 12 and 12 Pro sport the latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip from Qualcomm. The 12X uses only the lower-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip.

In terms of photographic equipment, all the three 12 series model have a 32-megapixel (MP) front-facing camera. Being the flagship of this series, the 12 Pro has the most sophisticated rear triple-camera system with a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 50MP wide-angle camera and a 50MP telephoto 2x optical zoom camera.

All three 12 series models come in three colours of grey, purple and blue. Local availability and pricing of the Xiaomi 12 series will be shared at a later time.
