Yesterday’s Keynote brought us a lot of exciting announcements, and we will zoom into 3 key features we’re excited to experience in iPadOS 18.

1. Math Notes Calculator
With iPadOS 18, the iPad finally gets the Calculator app – but an amped up version that comes with Math Notes.

The all-new Math Notes calculator provides users with the option to either type or write out mathematical expressions with Apple Pencil. What’s interesting about this is that when you choose to write out mathematical formulas and expressions, you’ll see instant solutions being flashed on the screen in your own handwriting.

The Math Notes calculator comes with a new graphing feature that allows you to insert a graph with a single tap from writing or typing an equation. You can also add multiple equations on the same graph to see the correlation and make informed deductions and solutions. Math Notes are also automatically accessible in the Notes app in the new Math Notes folder that will be available in iPadOS 18. I’d imagine this would be really helpful for students and career professionals who use Math frequently.

2. Customisation Options
Customisation seems to be a running theme across the different Apple software updates, and I’m here for it. iPadOS 18 will bring a variety of customisation options for the Home Screen, app icons, and Control Centre. You can shift app icons and widgets into any open spot on the Home Screen for the most ideal layout that allows your wallpaper to take the spotlight. Apply different colour options to your app icons and widgets – light, dark, or with a tint. You can also choose to remove the folder name underneath each icon for a neater look.

In iPadOS 18, the Control Centre allows for easier access and flexibility for customisation that is in tune with the user’s behaviour. Imagine how easy it’d be to quickly access groups of controls you usually utilise in your daily life, and easily swipe through from group to group.

3. Distraction-Free Browsing with Safari
One thing that sometimes makes browsing the web just a tad annoying at times, is the amount of information that may be overwhelming and you eventually lose your train of thought.

Leveraging machine learning, Safari can pull up a summary of an article for you, surface the location of a hot spot or landmark, and allow you to listen to an audio track right from an article about the song or album. This way, you’d be able to quickly access information when browsing on Safari.
