Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new WhatsApp feature called Chat Lock.
Chat Locks allows users to protect their most intimate conversations with a password and secures them in a separate folder. When someone messages and users have that chat locked, the sender’s name and the content of the message will also be hidden. Even if other people have access to their phone, private chats will remain private.
Today, Whatsapp unveil a new feature known as Chat Lock, which empowers individuals to add an additional layer of protection to their most confidential conversations.
By locking a chat, the conversation is transferred from the general inbox to a dedicated folder that can only be accessed through the user’s device password or biometric authentication, such as fingerprint recognition. Furthermore, the contents of the locked chat are automatically concealed in notifications.
This feature is expected to greatly benefit individuals who occasionally share their phones with family members or find themselves in situations where someone else briefly handles their device precisely when a highly sensitive chat arrives. To lock a chat, users can simply tap on the name of a one-to-one or group conversation and select the lock option. To reveal the locked chats, they can gently pull down on the inbox, entering their phone password or utilizing biometric authentication.
In the upcoming months, the team plans to introduce additional options for Chat Lock, including the ability to lock chats on companion devices and the option to create a customized password exclusively for chats, providing the freedom to use a distinct password separate from the phone’s primary password. Chat Lock is currently being rolled out to users.
