Ubisoft, the popular French video game developer, has recently announced that it will no longer attend E3 2023, one of the biggest trade shows in the gaming industry, and will instead hold its own separate event. This comes as a surprise to many, as Ubisoft had previously confirmed its presence at the event.
According to reports from VGC, a spokesperson for Ubisoft stated that “While we initially intended to have an official E3 presence, we’ve made the subsequent decision to move in a different direction, and will be holding a Ubisoft Forward Live event on 12th June in Los Angeles. We look forward to sharing more details with our players very soon.” As of now, Ubisoft has not yet revealed any further plans for its summer showcase.
E3 2023 marks the first in-person return of the event after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be held from June 13 to June 16 and will be run by ReedPop, the company behind PAX and Star Wars Celebration. However, it remains unclear which other publishers will attend the show.
Ubisoft was initially one of the larger game publishers planning to attend E3 2023, but now, it’s still uncertain which major companies will make an appearance. Nintendo and Microsoft have both confirmed that they will not be participating in E3 this year, while Sony is reportedly skipping the event as well.
It’s worth noting that prior to the pandemic, other companies like Sony, Electronic Arts, and Microsoft had slowly started skipping E3, in favor of their own events. It appears that Ubisoft is now following suit, with a live version of its Forward event, which was first introduced in 2020.
Ubisoft has multiple games in development, including highly anticipated titles such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Skull and Bones, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Fans are eagerly awaiting more information on these titles, and it’s possible that the upcoming Ubisoft Forward Live event could provide some exciting news and updates.
