Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 – Worth the Upgrade?

Samsung has returned with the new successor of the highly popular flip device, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. After using it for two weeks we find out if it lives up to the hype.

AI Features

Samsung has been incorporating artificial intelligence for a while now. A genuinely useful and time-saving feature is the ability to remove objects. The “Circle to Search” feature lets you circle anything on your screen to search for it, which is quite clever. AI image editing on the Galaxy Z Flip6 is also improved, as it’s now easier to access without having to navigate through settings. While sometimes leaving a strange blur where something was edited out, the feature is improving and the ability to remove or move objects can be genuinely useful.

Camera

The Galaxy Z Flip6 is awesome for group pics. Just open the camera on the Cover Screen, and you can see exactly who’s in the shot. All you have to do is raise your hand to snap the photo, so no one has to miss out. Photos taken on the Galaxy Z Flip6 look great even when the sun is shining right into the lens. Portrait mode looks great with main subject looking sharp and bokeh effects rendered naturally.

Samsung has introduced Auto-Zoom, a feature that uses AI to automatically adjust the zoom based on who’s in the frame. For a touch of ’90s nostalgia, there’s also Camcorder mode. Just open video mode on the Galaxy Z Flip6, fold it in half, and hold it like an old-school camcorder.

The Galaxy Z Flip6 has finally received a much-needed upgrade, featuring a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The images are vibrant and more striking than what you see in real life, making them perfect for sharing. Additionally, the extra resolution compared to previous Galaxy Z Flip models results in improved low-light photography.

Screen and Battery life

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip powers this device and its AI capabilities, providing a fast and smooth user experience. You can answer calls and reply to notifications directly from the cover screen. The main display is a stunning 6.7-inch Full HD+ flexible AMOLED screen, which is now brighter for better visibility on sunny days and offers a faster refresh rate for smoother scrolling. While the crease is still there and noticeable when you run your thumb over it, it’s much less prominent than in earlier versions of Samsung’s flip device.

Battery life depends on how you use your phone, the apps you have running, and how often you use features like the camera or AI. However, for our tests they last just fine till the end of the day when I plug it in to get it juiced up.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is definitely slimmer than its predecessor, with improved dust resistance, which I can feel with the device in hand. The matte finish on the back and flatter edges offer subtle design changes. The device’s new and practical AI features, excellent performance, and enhancements to the camera and battery, all of which contribute to a better overall experience.

If you’re a certified 90’s baby or a 2000’s baddie who loves nostalgia, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is definitely a great choice. Plus, you get to let the other person how you’re feeling when you angrily snap the phone closed to end the call.
