PRISM+ Vortex – Yay or Nay?

If you live in a typical household with closed windows most evenings, air that sometimes feels heavy and stale, and the occasional smell from cooking, the PRISM+ Vortex Smart Air Purifier promises a difference. I set it up in my study area (which is essentially just a small area off the living room) to see how it handled dust, smells, pet hair, and general indoor air in a humid tropical home.

PRISM+ Vortex

Design & Usability

The Vortex comes in a clean cube-style body (226 × 226 × 360 mm, 3.53 kg) that fits nicely beside a sofa or console table without dominating the space. The front panel features a small display for air-quality colours (blue = good, orange = average, red = poor) and the build quality feels solid. Setup was very straightforward: plug it in, select the WiFi (2.4GHz only), install the PRISM+ Connect app, and it began auto-mode straight away. It felt well suited for daily living: compact enough, quiet enough, and unobtrusive.

Performance

With pre-filter, medical-grade HEPA H13 and activated carbon layers, it claims to cover up to 560 ft² (~52 m²) and captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns. When I ran it in auto mode after a cooking session featuring chilli and fish, the fan ramped up instantly and the fuss from cooking smells and haze cleared faster than usual.

In sleep mode it goes as quiet as 22 dB according to specs, and in my experience it remained low-profile through the night (you barely notice it’s on). The app’s air-quality readouts matched my subjective feel of fresher air after a few hours of use. I typically leave it on 24/7 on night mode so it doesn’t disrupt my daily life and I find that the air is indeed fresher – especially since I have 3 pets in the house.

Experience

For a typical Singaporean home, the Vortex ticks many practical boxes. The air does feel fresher in rooms where we spend most time. It is especially helpful if you live near a main road, have pets, or dislike the musty feeling when you close windows at night. It’s not a miracle machine – if the room is full of smoke or extreme odours it will take time – but it performed reliably as part of daily life. The biggest task is just everyday placement (near an open space) rather than hiding it behind furniture where airflow is blocked.

Yay or Nay?

Yay if you:

  • Want a smart air purifier with solid specs (HEPA H13, UV-C, app control) at a reasonable price.
  • Live in a mid-sized Singapore home where air quality matters.
  • Prefer a device that works quietly in the background, not one that demands attention.

Nay if you:

  • Need ultra-large coverage (open plan >100 m²) – the Vortex is optimised for medium rooms.
  • Want ultra-premium brand integration (PRISM+ is good but not yet Apple HomeKit native everywhere).

Price & Availability

The PRISM+ Vortex Smart Air Purifier is currently priced from S$199 for the local market during promotion (regular price ~S$269). You can get it directly from PRISM+ here.
