History of the M Lens

The M lens has been one of the most celebrated lens in the world of photography since its launch in 1961. Even after more than 35 years of almost unaltered production, the M lens has been the world’s fastest wide-angle lens and one of the most compact and light companions at only 200 grams.

Functionality

Photographing with the Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 has always rewarded the audience with a superior imaging performance and unique image effect. With maximum aperture, pictures come out especially soft and almost magical bokeh effect, which is difficult to achieve even with digital image processing. Bokeh? Yes please!

With open aperture in backlit conditions, it creates the intended lens flares that can be used for very specific creative effects. Time to unleash the creative beast in you.

Stopping down to f/2.8, the lens produces extremely sharp and precisely distortion-free pictures which definitely matches up to modern requirements for image quality.

Relaunch of Summilux-M 35 f/1.4

The relaunched edition is made in the Leica hometown in Wetzlar – in the original vintage design and identical optical calculation of the first Summilux-M 35 f/1.4. Known as ‘Steel Rim’, the stainless steel front ring. the lockable focus ring and the easily identifiable black attachable lens hood are also modelled on the original.

The key difference in the relaunched edition of the Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 is the second round lens hood with E46 thread, which enables the use of filters and also included in delivery. Oooooh!
