ASICS World Ekiden 2021 relay race is here

It is important to keep ourselves fit as the global Covid-19 pandemic continues to rage on. Maybe you and your friends can help uplift the world and inspire others to keep fit by joining ASICS World Ekiden 2021.

In case you are wondering, Ekiden is a type of long-distance running relay. Its meaning originates from the Japanese phrase of “relaying station”. The ASICS World Ekiden 2021 hopes to be the ultimate virtual relay founded on teamwork.

This virtual race is split into six legs of different distances with three 5km runs, one 7.2km run and two 10km runs. The distances add together to be 42.2km – the marathon distance.

You have to form a team of six runners, nominate a team captain and sign up from the race here. Your team will pass a digital tasuki – narrow band of fabric associated with traditional Ekiden – to run the combined virtual marathon in the fastest possible time.

Registration (it’s free!) has already started and ends on Nov 22. The official race period is between Nov 10 and Nov 22. You and your teammates have to download the ASICS Runkeeper app and use it to log your distance.

Before the race, you can also use the Runkeeper app to collaborate with your team on training plans. In addition, your team stand a chance to win exclusive Ekiden apparel and ASICS water bottle every week from Oct 20 to Nov 10. All you need to do is to tag all your teammates and @ASICSSG with this Instagram Stories (IGS) template below.

At the same time, ASICS has launched a new pair of running shoes designed for distance runners looking for a smooth stride in Gel-Kinsei Blast (S$279).

Its arrangement of Gel technology of FF Blast cushioning creates a soft but yet responsive step. Plus, its midsole’s shape is inspired by a samurai’s katana sword. And with Pebax plate in the centre, it re-directs your movement forward for a faster feel.
