Apple’s Environmental Milestones

As part of Apple’s 2030 goal, the tech giant recently announced that they have successfully surpassed a 60% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions as compared to 2015 levels.

Here are some things you need to know in Apple’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality in the manufacturing and recycling of its products.

Acceleration of Clean Energy in Apple’s Supply Chain

The tech giant has a long-standing collaboration with its suppliers globally, and the renewable energy used by Apple suppliers has avoided 21.8 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2024 alone. This points to an increase of 17% from 2023.

Cleaner Semiconductor Production

In a bid to reduce carbon footprint, Apple is also working with its supply chain to ensure that its direct semiconductor suppliers commit to abate at least 90% of highly potent fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-GHGs). This means that Apple-related production work will abate the harmful greenhouse gas emission throughout its manufacturing process.

Increase of Recycled and Renewable Materials

In 2025, Apple surpassed 99% of its annual goal to use 100% recycled rare elements in all magnets and 100% recycled cobalt in all Apple-designed batteries.

Reduction in Product Emissions

Earlier this year, Apple introduced the new MacBook Air with over 55% recycled content overall – the highest amount of recycled content in any Apple product ever. In 2024, Apple introduced its first-ever carbon Neutral Mac mini – a pledge to its efforts in reducing its carbon footprint. If you did not already know, you can also select a carbon neutral option of any Apple Watch in any material.

Earth Day with Apple

On 22 April, Apple Watch users can earn an Earth Day limited-edition award just by completing any workout of 30 minutes or more.
