Apple announces new iPhone SE and iPad Air; both available in Singapore on Mar 18

Apple has just unveiled its third-generation iPhone SE, during its special “Peek Performance” livestream event.

If you are hoping for some major design overhaul, you will be disappointed. The new iPhone SE retains the looks of its predecessor and iPhone 8. It comes with Touch ID on the Home button in front of its 4.7-inch LCD display.

The major improvements are in its innards with a new A15 Bionic chip found in the current flagship iPhone 13 series. In other words, you get the fastest performance like the iPhone 13 series. The new iPhone SE also supports 5G connectivity, as the world continues to improve the 5G coverage.

And the new iPhone SE only comes with one rear 12-megapixel (MP) camera, a rarity in today’s smartphone landscape, as well as a 7MP front-facing camera.

However, the new iPhone SE does come with a bigger 256GB storage option, compared to only 64GB and 128GB in its predecessor. Also, it is available in starlight, midnight and red colours.

The Apple iPhone SE (3rd gen) will be available in Singapore on Mar 18 with its pricing starting at S$699. Pre-order starts on this Friday, Mar 11, 9pm Singapore Time.

At the same time, Apple also refreshed the iPad Air. Into its fifth iteration, the new iPad Air uses the same M1 chip found in last year’s iPad Pro.

In terms of performance, the M1 chip is 70% more powerful than the A14 Bionic chip found in the fourth-generation iPad Air and around 50% faster than the A15 Bionic chip in iPhone 13 series. In addition, the new iPad Air supports 5G connectivity for faster cellular performance.

The new iPad Air retains its predecessor’s 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display but comes with the 12MP Ultra Wide camera system. It supports Centre Stage that ensures you are always in frame during your endless video calls.

The new iPad Air will be available in two storage configurations of 64GB and 256GB. And it comes in five colours of space grey, starlight, pink, purple, and blue.

The fifth-generation iPad Air will be available here on Mar 18 with pricing beginning at S$879 for Wi-Fi models and at S$1,099 for 5G models. Pre-order starts this Friday, Mar 11, 9pm Singapore Time.

In other news, Apple introduced two new colours for iPhone 13 series. The new colours are green for iPhone 13 series and alpine green for the iPhone 13 Pro series. Again, these green iPhone 13 models will be open to pre-order this Friday and available on Mar 18.
