WWDC24: New Experiences with Home Products

In the flurry of action across the entire Apple ecosystem with all the new software updates, Home products are also getting an upgrade.

Experiences are often enhanced with each round of software updates, and tvOS 18 is no different. Later this year, InSight will provide users the ability to access actor & music information on Apple TV+ shows in real time.

Most of us would not be strangers to this feature, but it’s definitely a welcome addition to the Apple ecosystem. Being able to find out more about an actor or add a song that is playing in a show directly to an Apple Music playlist would be helpful, to say the least. If you’re using your iPhone as an Apple TV remote, you’d be able to access the information on it as well.

With tvOS 18, Enhance Dialogue leverages machine learning and computational audio to delivery better vocal clarity on Apple TV 4K. Subtitles will automatically appear with tvOS 18 even when the language in the show does not match the device language.

A wider screen ratio – 21:9 – is coming to tvOS 18, which will make watching movies on projectors more immersive.

Apple Home Services Gets An Upgrade

Later this year, anyone can access control of music playing from HomePod and HomePod mini with SharePlay and Apple Music. Continuity Camera on FaceTime for tvOS 18 gets updates that make it more accessible.

iOS 18 brings the Home app new updates, including guest access – which provides users ways to grant guests control of locks and more. The homeowner will also be able to view Activity History for guests.

More Features coming to the Home app & Apple TV

Later this year, robot vacuum cleaners will also be compatible with the Home app and can be activated using Siri.

AirPlay also welcomes Spatial Audio, including support for Dolby Atmos. Users will get an immersive audio experience when AirPlay is used to stream audio from Apple devices to HomePod and compatible third-party audio equipment.
