All-New Standard for Privacy in AI

A huge part of Apple Intelligence is on-device processing, and while it leverages on understanding meaningful personal context, it also protects user privacy.

Private Cloud Compute

Private Cloud Compute extends the privacy and security of Apple devices into the cloud to run more complex requests that require more processing power. According to Apple, Private Cloud Compute ensures that iPhone, iPad, and Mac do not communicate with a server unless its software has been publicly logged for inspection. Apple Intelligence, in tandem with Private Cloud Compute sets a new standard for privacy in AI, ensuring that users can trust the intelligence.

Tapping into ChatGPT’s field of expertise will allow Siri to share the solution with users after they grant permission for Apple to share any information with ChatGPT pertaining to their question.

I’d imagine this would be a helpful tool outside of the Apple ecosystem not requiring users to tap in and out of different apps/sites.

ChatGPT will also be available as part of Apple’s Writing Tools to help people generate content for anything they are writing about.

Compose allows users to also access ChatGPT image tools to generate images to complement what they are writing.

Privacy Protections

To reassure everyone, Apple worked with OpenAI to ensure that Apple users’ IP addresses are hidden, and requests will not be stored on OpenAI. For people who consented to connect their ChatGPT account, data-use policies will apply.

ChatGPT will come to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year, powered by GPT-4o. You can access it for free without creating an account, and ChatGPT subscribers can connect their accounts and access paid features directly.

Apple Intelligence will be available in beta as part of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia later this year. Apple Intelligence will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad and Mac with M1 and later, with Siri and device language set to U.S. English.
