Apple just wrapped the electrically charged WWDC24 Keynote earlier this morning.
For the uninitiated, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is an annual event held at Apple Park, showcasing different OS updates and sometimes, hardware launches. Going into WWDC24, the air was rife with rumours about a huge AI announcement – and it did not disappoint.
We will dive more into each aspect in dedicated pieces later today, but for now, here’s a quick round-up of all the announcements live from Apple Park.
1. Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence brings a slew of capabilities to performing tasks even quicker, and in a seamless manner across the entire Apple ecosystem.
Apple Intelligence weaves in personal nuances and helps you prioritise notifications, and cool features like writing tools will help you Rewrite, Proofread, and Summarise in Mail and other apps that taps on such tools.
2. Home & Audio updates
tvOS 18 will introduce all-new cinematic experiences with InSight – a feature that allows you to access information about the actors and music in real-time while watching a show. Enhance Dialogue also gets a little smarter with tvOS 18, delivering better vocal clarity over different sounds on Apple TV 4K.
AirPods will take on a new software update later this year, where one can simply nod yes or shake their head no to silently communicate with Siri. Voice Isolation will also help ensure that the caller’s voice is loud and clear even in extremely noisy environments.
3. iOS18
With a bunch of new customisation options, you can further tap on the interesting features to make your iPhone feel more personalised. This includes being able to switch the controls at the bottom of the Lock Screen and further customise the Control Centre.
Apple Pay is getting an upgrade – you can now pay someone for dinner directly by tapping on their iPhone with Tap to Cash.
Game Mode is coming to iPhone, allowing you to play your favourite games with more consistent frame rates.
4. watchOS 11
Training load is perfect for people who train for different sports or lifestyles frequently to review their workouts. This will allow people to make informed decisions from the different stats and data in Training load.
Health is going to welcome the new Vitals app which helps to track important sleep and health metrics to allow users to make better informed decisions in their daily lives.
4. iPadOS 18
On top of the features that are available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18 will also see a beautiful floating bar at the top of the screen when performing tasks on the iPad. Tapping on the floating bar will automatically move it to the left so that it doesn’t disrupt one’s workflow.
The Calculator app is finally coming to the iPad(!!!!!) – an announcement that drew audible reactions from the crowd at Apple Park. On top of being able to now use a native Calculator app on one’s iPad, you can also tap on something called Math Notes.
Math Notes will automatically calculate and recalculate as you use your Apple Pencil to write formulas and calculations on the Calculator app.
5. macOS Sequoia
Continuity is a huge thing in the Apple ecosystem – and now, a feature called iPhone Mirroring will allow one to interact with your iPhone directly from your Mac. If you’re worried about how the iPhone screen will look like when you’re using your iPhone on your Mac – fret not. Your iPhone screen will remain locked as you perform tasks wirelessly via your Mac.
Something that really excited me was now – you get to quickly snap windows to a nice grid right on your Mac. This is something that I’ve been waiting for – for a really long time and I reckon this would be a very welcome addition for a lot of Mac users.
6. Apple Vision Pro
Apple Vision Pro is finally coming to Singapore from 28 June 2024 onwards! Pre-orders will begin on 14 June, Friday at 9AM.
