Highlights From Nintendo Indie World Showcase April 2023

Nintendo has just delivered another Indie World showcase, featuring a mix of new announcements and updates on indie games coming to the Switch soon. The 20-minute presentation was packed with exciting news for indie fans, including the reveal of Blasphemous 2, the release date for Mineko’s Night Market, and more. Here are some of the highlights from today’s Nintendo Indie World Showcase stream.

Blasphemous 2

The Penitent One is back for more brutal action in Blasphemous 2, the sequel to the acclaimed 2019 metroidvania game. Set five years after the original game, Blasphemous 2 continues the story of The Miracle, a mysterious force that shapes the world and its inhabitants. The game promises to offer more customization options, new weapons, new enemies, and new bosses in a larger non-linear world. Blasphemous 2 is coming to Switch in late summer 2023.

Mineko’s Night Market

After years of development, Mineko’s Night Market finally has a launch date for Switch. The game is a charming simulation game that draws inspiration from Japanese culture and folklore. You play as Mineko, a girl who moves to a new island and runs a night market. You can explore the island, craft items, befriend animals (especially cats), and join various activities and mini-games. Mineko’s Night Market is set to release on September 26 on Switch, and will also be available on PC.

My Time at Sandrock

The follow-up to My Time at Portia, My Time at Sandrock is a sandbox simulation game that lets you build your own workshop, machines, and home in a post-apocalyptic desert. You can also explore ancient ruins, fight monsters, and interact with other characters. The game is currently in Early Access on Steam, and will launch on Switch in summer 2023.

PlateUp!

If you love cooking games like Overcooked, you might want to check out PlateUp!, a roguelite management sim published by Yogcast. In this game, you can team up with up to three friends online or locally and run your own restaurant. You can choose your equipment, design your kitchen, create your menu, and serve your dishes to hungry customers. But be careful, as the game will throw random events and challenges at you every day. PlateUp! is a fun and chaotic game that will test your culinary skills and teamwork. It will launch on Switch in October 2023.

Quilts and Cats of Calico

If you prefer a more relaxing game, Quilts and Cats of Calico might be for you. This game is based on the popular board game Calico, where you have to make patterns with quilt tiles to attract cats. The video game version brings the board game to life with cute graphics, animated cats, and customization options. You can also play with friends online or locally, compete in ranked matches, or join weekly challenges. Quilts and Cats of Calico is a cozy and charming game that will appeal to cat lovers and puzzle fans alike. It will be out on Switch in Fall 2023.

Rift of the NecroDancer

Fans of rhythm games and monster battles will enjoy Rift of the NecroDancer, a spin-off of Crypt of the NecroDancer. In this game, you have to tap along to the music and switch lanes to fight enemies and bosses. The game features multiple characters, a new storyline, and a rocking soundtrack by Danny Baranowsky. Animal Well

Shadows Over Loathing

One of the surprise releases of today’s Indie World showcase was Shadows Over Loathing, the sequel to the hilarious West of Loathing. The game is a comedy adventure-RPG set in the 1920s, where you have to deal with mobsters, monsters, and mysteries. You can choose from three classes: Pig Skinner, Cheese Wizard, or Jazz Agent, and customize your stick figure character. The game features thousands of jokes, gags, and goofs, as well as a non-linear world, turn-based combat, and multiple endings. Shadows Over Loathing is available on Switch today.

Teslagrad 2

Another game that shadow dropped today was Teslagrad 2, a physics-based puzzle platformer where you use electromagnetic powers to explore and solve challenges. The game is a sequel to Teslagrad, which was also remastered and released today on Switch. Both games are set in a steampunk world inspired by European folklore and history. You have to use your observation and deduction skills, as well as the help of EVE, an advanced AI, to find clues and evidence. The game features huge zoomable maps, point-and-click gameplay, and a mix of deductive sessions, action, and puzzles. Crime O’Clock is set to release on Switch on June 30.

Oxenfree II

One of the most anticipated indie games of this year is Oxenfree II, the sequel to the critically acclaimed supernatural adventure game by Night School Studio and Netflix. The game follows Riley, a researcher who returns to her hometown and discovers strange radio signals that may be related to the events of the first game. The game will feature new characters, locations, and choices, as well as a new walkie-talkie system that allows you to communicate with other characters. In addition to showing numerous games, Nintendo also confirmed release dates for several games, the most notable of them being Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, which launches today.

DLC Updates

Several existing indie games on Switch will also receive DLC updates in the coming months. One of them is Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith, which will add dozens of new items, relics, and enemies to the darkly cute dungeon crawler. The DLC will also introduce a permadeath mode and more when it arrives on April 24. Another game that will get a major update is Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, which will add two new playable characters, new challenges, and many hats to the puzzle-adventure game. The update will be out this spring.
