Marvel’s Dying Avengers Game, Gives Nearly Everything For Free

In January 2023, it was announced that the live-service superhero RPG Marvel’s Avengers would come to an end on September 30. Developer Crystal Dynamics confirmed that all cosmetics would be available for free once the final update was released. Now, that time has arrived, and players can enjoy the game without the microtransactional content.

Marvel’s Avengers is an action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics, launched in September 2020 on last-gen consoles and Stadia, and later made available on current-gen systems in March 2021. The game was criticized for its grindy progression systems and excessive monetization practices. Despite this, players can still access both single- and multiplayer modes.

With the final update, nearly all cosmetic items, including outfits, emotes, takedowns, and nameplates, will be unlocked for free. However, items that require progress through the campaign or purchasing from the marketplace must still be acquired in the same way. Existing credits have been converted into spendable resources, and a 1.5x multiplier for XP and fragments has been permanently activated.

In addition, players who have been playing since the launch of the game or earn at least one achievement/trophy before April 1 will receive Iron Man’s “Variable Threat Response Battle Suit” as a gift. The suit looks similar to War Machine’s armor from the MCU movies but has no impact on gameplay.

The game’s exclusive character, Spider-Man, will remain on PlayStation consoles. Despite this, the almost-complete unlocking of cosmetic items is a consolation for the players, even if fewer people are playing the game.

Even with nearly everything unlocked, I might still skip this game. I don’t know if I agree with the grindy progression and monetization. Honestly, after a while the game would feel like Anthem, which isn’t a good thing.
