iOS 15 is here today and here are 10 reasons why you should upgrade

With every new iPhone launched, there will be a new iOS. And with the iPhone 13 available this Friday (Sep 24), iOS 15 (compatible with iPhone 6s and later) is now available.

If you are upgrading to iPhone 13, it is paramount to upgrade your current iPhone to iOS 15 for easy migration when you get the new iPhone. Even if you are not upgrading to the latest iPhone, here are 10 reasons why you should be doing so anyway.

LIVE CONVENIENTLY WITH LIVE TEXT
You can now tap the image of a phone number to make a call or the image of a web address to open it in Safari, thanks to Live Text. It recognises text in images on your iPhone and in real time using the Camera app. You can also copy and paste text as well as translate on images containing text.

SHARE WITH SHAREPLAY
You can keep FaceTime conversations going as you watch TV programmes and movies, listen to music or share your screen using SharePlay. In this time of pandemic, this is as close as you can get to watching shows together.

INVITE ANYONE TO FACETIME
You can send friends and family a link to connect on FaceTime — even if they’re using Windows or Android. Plus, it’s end-to-end encrypted. So you and your friends don’t have to worry about Zoom bombing.

FOCUS ON WHAT’S IMPORTANT
This new feature, well, helps you focus when you need to concentrate or step away. You can choose from a list of Focus options or create your own to allow only the notifications you want, so you can get work done while you are in the zone or simply enjoy a distraction‑free lunch.

GET ORGANISED WITH TAB GROUPS
You can save and organise your tabs in Safari web browser in the way that works best for you. These Tab Groups sync across Apple devices, so you have access to your tabs when you switch devices.

HEALTH SHARING
Having a second set of eyes on your health data can give you a peace of mind. Updates to the Health app give you new ways to share data with your loved ones, so you can receive important notifications about your loved ones’ health and view important data like activity, mobility data, heart rate data and trends.

INTERACTIVE MEMORIES
Memories introduces a new interactive and immersive interface, along with new Memory mixes that let you personalise the look and feel of your story with a song and vibe to match.

SEE THE NOTIFICATIONS THAT MATTER
Too many notifications? iOS 15’s updated Notifications have been redesigned to help you prioritise information and reduce distractions. There is also a notification summary to help you quickly catch up based on a schedule you set.

PRIORITISE PRIVACY
You can get even more control over your data with privacy protections. For example, you can hide your IP address and location with Mail Privacy Protection. This prevents senders from seeing if and when you have opened their emails. The App Privacy Report will let you see how often apps have accessed your data like location or photos.

ACCESSIBILITY IN ANY APP
You can customise display and text size settings for each app. Whether it is to bold or enlarge text, increase contrast or invert colours, you can do it for only the apps you want.

Trevor Tan

Started out with dreams to become a street photographer, Trevor Tan somehow became a tech journalist with over 16 years of consumer tech experience. Maybe he plays too much video games and buys too many new gadgets.
