No word about the Huawei P50 series flagship smartphones. But the Chinese tech giant announces several new flagship products, ranging from monitors to smartwatch, during its virtual summer launch event.
MATEPAD TABLETS
For a start, there will be three new models in Huawei’s MatePad tablet series. They are the 12.6-inch MatePad Pro, 10.8-inch MatePad Pro and 11-inch MatePad 11.
Both new MatePad Pro tablets are equipped with a gorgeous bezel-less screen with a 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio. On the other hand, the MatePad 11 is Huawei’s first tablet to support a 120Hz screen refresh rate to bring a smoother visual experience for videos and games.
In addition, the new Huawei M-Pencil (2nd-generation) features a platinum-coated pen nib for a natural writing experience. There is also a new full-sized Smart Magnetic Keyboard with a 1.3mm key travel for comfortable typing.
WATCH 3 SMARTWATCH
At the same time, Huawei unveils its next generation smartwatch with the Watch 3 series. There are three models of the Watch Series – Watch 3 Active, Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro.
The Watch 3 and Watch 3 Active models are the same model apart from having different strap. The Watch 3 uses brown leather strap, while the Active uses black fluoroelastomer strap. Otherwise, both feature a 46mm stainless watch case with up to 3 days battery life.
On the other hand, the Watch 3 Pro features a bigger 48mm titanium watch case with sapphire glass as well as up to 5 days battery life.
But all the Watch 3 smartwatches have a 1.43-inch round AMOLED colour display with two buttons on the right side of its watch case. And all the models are water resistant down to a depth of 50m.
FREEBUDS 4 TRUE WIRELESS EARBUDS
And no tech event is complete without a new pair of wireless earbuds these days. And the new FreeBuds 4 is the first open-fit earbuds in the industry, according to Huawei.
It comes with Adaptive Ear Matching (AEM) noise cancellation technology. In layperson terms, it means when noise cancellation is switched on, the earbuds will automatically detect your ear shape to determine optimised algorithms for the best noise cancellation performance.
Weighing only 4.1g per earbud, the FreeBuds 4 is designed for comfortable wear for long periods of time.
MATEVIEW MONITORS
PC monitors have become important in this pandemic with many been working from home with their laptops. Monitors allow for better sitting posture and viewing. And Huawei has launched two monitors in the form of MateView and MateView GT.
The MateView is designed for your productivity needs with its 28.2-inch 4K+ (3,840 x 2,560 pixels) IPS display. With its 6mm bezels, it offers up to 94 per cent screen-to-body ratio for a sleek minimalistic design with a thin stand. In addition, this stand features easily-accessible ports two USB-A ports, a USB-C port and a 3.5mm jack on its side. At its rear, you can find a HDMI port, a mini-DisplayPort and a USB-C power port.
Meanwhile, the MateView GT is a curved 34-inch monitor designed for gaming. It features a 34-inch high-resolution (3,440 × 1,440 pixels) curved screen with a fast refresh rate of 165Hz. Its stand doubles as a stereo sound bar, thus gamers do not need to get extra desktop speakers for their gaming needs.
HARMONYOS 2
With the US-China trade war still raging on and thus the continual Google ban, Huawei is moving to ensure its own HarmonyOS operating system gets some traction. Both the new MatePad series tablets and Watch 3 series smartwatches will be Huawei’s first consumer devices powered by HarmonyOS 2.

Local pricing and availability of today’s announced Huawei products will be revealed closer to its respective launch.
