Google Pixel Fold: Rumours – What We Know

Google is reportedly working on its first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, which could launch as soon as May 10, according to a recent leak. The Pixel Fold is expected to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, offering a 7.69-inch inner display and a 5.79-inch outer display, both using Samsung’s M13 display materials. The Pixel Fold could also feature a similar rear camera array as the Pixel 7 Pro, and run on Android 14.

The Pixel Fold’s price, however, could be a drawback for some potential buyers. According to leaker Jon Prosser, the Pixel Fold will cost USD$1,799 | SGD$2400, which is USD$200 | SGD$266 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s launch price. Prosser also claims that the Pixel Fold will be available for pre-order on May 10, and ship on June 27.

The Pixel Fold is not the only device that Google is expected to announce at its annual developer conference, Google I/O. The company could also unveil the Pixel 7a, a budget-friendly version of the Pixel 7, which could come in four colors: Charcoal, Snow, Sea and Coral. The Pixel 7a could be available for purchase on May 10 as well.

The rise of foldable phones

Foldable devices have become increasingly popular in recent years due to the success of Samsung’s Fold smartphones. As a blend of form, flexibility, and function, foldable smartphones give users a larger screen to have better readability and more comfort and utility when browsing on their devices.

According to a report by Counterpoint Research, shipments for foldable phones will increase by over 52% in 2023 to reach as much as 22.7 million units. This shows that foldable phones are not just a niche product, but a mainstream trend that could challenge the traditional smartphone market.

Google is not the only company that is exploring the foldable space. Other brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, and Oppo have also launched or announced their own foldable devices. However, Google has an advantage of being the developer of Android, which could give it more control and optimization over the software and hardware integration of its foldable phone.

Google has not confirmed any of these rumors, so we will have to wait and see what the company has in store for its foldable phone and other devices. Follow us on Telegram, Instagram, TikTok & YouTube more updates on the Google Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a.
