Google Assistant is 5 years old today

If you have an Android smartphone, you might want to wish the Google Assistant – your personal AI virtual assistant – a happy 5th birthday.

Launched five years ago, Google Assistant has since become a part of daily life for millions of people around the world. During its early days, Google Assistant was offered in just two voices. And it was available on Google Home speakers in the US and supported English and German on Pixel phones.

Today, Google Assistant is available in over 90 countries in nearly 30 languages including Singaporean English or Singlish. In fact, Singlish has been supported since 2017. You can try talking to your Google Assistant in Singlish and he or she will reply accordingly.

Google Assistant is now offered in 10 voices and works with over 100 million smart home devices, from smart lights to security systems.

You can wish your Google Assistant happy birthday by saying “Hey Google, Happy Birthday” or “Hey Google, how old are you?”. And you will be get a nice surprise. No prizes but a chuckle.
