Apple announces Oct 18 event; new M1X MacBook Pro and re-designed AirPods expected

It is like yesterday that Apple announced new iPhones and Apple Watch. And now, Apple just announced an Oct 18 virtual event with an invite featuring hyper drive graphics and says “Unleashed”.

Apple’s marketing head Greg Joswiak tweeted this (see below) and we can surmise that this event is probably going to be about hardware running Apple’s rumoured new and faster M1X chip, or whatever it might be called.

In other words, we might be seeing the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops being launched at the event. These two MacBook Pros have been the centre of multiple reports. Apart from running the new M1X chip, these MacBook Pro models are expected to inherit the return of several fan-favourite features like magnetic MagSafe charging, a HDMI port and an SD card slot. And the much-maligned touch bar will be gone.

There are also rumours that an updated or re-designed M1X Mac mini will be in the works. This Mac mini is expected to have more ports and more processing power than last year’s M1 Mac mini. This is to cater to users who need more power in their machines but a Mac Pro would have been an overkill.

And we might finally see the release of the third-generation AirPods. Pundits predicted its release during last month’s iPhone launch but it was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps, it will be announced during this event instead.

We will know on Oct 18, 10am PDT (Oct 19, 1am SGT) when the event is streamed live on Apple website, its Youtube channel and on Apple TV.
