We reviewed the Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine last year, where we tried out Dyson’s wet vacuum function for the first time. Now, Dyson has launched the WashG1™, a dedicated wet floor cleaner for a cleaner living space – and we were excited to try it out. After about 3 weeks using the Dyson WashG1™, here are our thoughts.
Setting up the Dyson WashG1™
Assembling the WashG1™ was rather effortless, as with all Dyson products which are largely plug and play. Setting up the machine via myDyson app, I fully charged up the machine and filled the clean water tank with water to its max level and added floor cleaning solution before trying it out. It is important to note that you should only use a low foam floor cleaning solution.
The individually powered rollers are designed specially for fast stain removal, and the pulse-modulated pump evenly distributes water across 26 hydration points while cleaning. With 64,800 filaments per cm2, each roller is made with highly absorbent microfibre. Dry dirt, debris and hair gets picked up by the high-intensity filaments, while liquid spills are absorbed evenly. The suction power of the WashG1™ is quite strong – and thankfully, detangling accidentally loose items from the machine is not difficult.
My daily routine includes using the V12s Detect Slim Submarine to vacuum, before using the WashG1™ to mop up the entire house. For days I don’t feel like switching out the attachment on the V12s Detect Slim Submarine, the WashG1™ is easy to pick up.
Good Hygiene and No-Touch Disposal
With Dyson’s unique separation technology, dirty water is extracted from the rollers by a mangle, and the secondary nylon bristled inner brush bars removes dirt and debris. It is pretty interesting to see the clean water ‘move down’ into the dirty water tank after cleaning the floor.
What I really like about this is the hands-free experience – the WashG1™ does it all.

3 Hydration Modes for Different Floor Types
With 3 hydration modes to select from, I opted for Level 2 which is suitable for stone, tile, and laminate floors – what I have at home. Level 1 is recommended for light cleans and delicate floors, and Level 3 for tough stains and messy spills.
Holding down the MAX button would help to remove stubborn stains whenever needed. I tried this out on a stubborn stain one of my furkids left on the floor just minutes before I started cleaning, and I was pleasantly surprised when the MAX mode on the WashG1™ removed it after a few swipes.
What I really like is the ability to select the hydration mode according to the level of cleaning needed, alongside the flooring type and my own preference.
Extensive Coverage and Battery Life
The 1 litre clean water tank allows me to comfortably clean my entire apartment with no refills needed – and I’ve been told that it could clean an average 5-bedroom apartment without refills too. That is approximately 110m2 to 130m2. The machine can last about 35-minutes of continuous usage, and that should be able to clean your entire apartment smoothly.

Easy Maintenance with the Self-clean Cycle
After running the WashG1™ across both tiled and laminate flooring at home, I emptied the dirty water tank and debris tray. I then filled up the clean water tank with water and the same floor cleaning solution to about half full, before reattaching it. Once docked, I selected the Self-Clean mode on the screen to kickstart the process. All you have to do is to empty the tanks and debris tray after the cycle ends. The Self-clean Cycle helps to prevent the build-up of dirt on the microfibre and wet system components. Doing so will ensure that the machine can be kept in good condition after each use.
Yay or Nay?
The Dyson WashG1™ leaves the floor pretty clean – comfortable to step on with no water streaks. With my pets almost always making a mess with their tiny paw prints tracking all sorts of funky stuff across the floor, the WashG1™ makes it effortless to clean up after them.
It’s an easy yay for me. I’ve said this before and I’d say it again – Dyson is at the forefront of technology when it comes to home appliances. The Dyson WashG1™ is no different, and I can see this being an easy addition to any household.
