Apple announces its first special event for 2021

After reports of leaks by Siri earlier, Apple has officially announced its first special event of 2021 will be held on Apr 20, 10am Pacific Time (Apr 21, 1am Singapore Time), at the Steve Jobs Theater on Apple Park campus in Cupertino, US.

Apple’s spring event is usually held in March in the past and in-person. But with global chip shortage and Covid-19 pandemic, this event, called “Spring Loaded”, has been delayed to April and will be a digital-only event.

Given the multi-colour brush strokes of the “Spring Loaded” graphics, one can probably expect an iPad-centric event.

The iPad Pro tablets are expected to be updated with faster processors and mini-LED displays that offer better image quality. There are also rumours that there will be updated iPad minis and a new low-cost iPad.

At the same time, rumour mills have been rife about AirTags, Apple’s very own item tracker, for two years. Maybe we might finally see the introduction of AirTags during this event.

There are also rumours that we might see new models of iMac running Apple Silicon processors being unveiled. The iMac Pro was recently discontinued, and there were reports of the new iMac models getting slimmer bezels and better display.

However, professional models like iMac Pro are usually unveiled during Apple’s developer conference in June. But we never know.

The “Spring Loaded event” will be live-streamed on Apple website, Apple TV app and Apple’s YouTube channel on Apr 21, 1am Singapore Time.

Started out with dreams to become a street photographer, Trevor Tan somehow became a tech journalist with over 16 years of consumer tech experience. Maybe he plays too much video games and buys too many new gadgets.
