Apple has announced it will host its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) from Jun 7 to Jun 11 this year in an online-only format.
It will be the second time in WWDC’s history that the annual event is an online-only affair. Last year’s WWDC was the first in its history to adopt an all-online approach, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With the pandemic still showing no signs of abating, it is no surprise that Apple has made such a decision.
Like last year, WWDC 2021 will be free for all developers again. In the past, developers have to apply and ballot for tickets to attend the in-person event, which was usually held in San Jose since 2017.
Ms Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise and Education Marketing, said: “We are working to make WWDC 2021 our biggest and best yet, and are excited to offer Apple developers new tools to support them as they create apps that change the way we live, work, and play.”
According to Apple, this year’s WWDC will feature announcements from the keynote and State of the Union stages, online sessions and new ways for developers to interact with Apple engineers and designers.
During WWDC 2020, Apple has a pre-recorded keynote address in which the Cupertino tech giant announced its gradual shift to Apple Silicon chip. It also introduced new versions of its ecosystem including the iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, watchOS 7 and macOS 11 Big Sur.
In other words, WWDC 2021 will probably see the launch of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, watchOS 8 and macOS 12 with a California place as the code name. Maybe we might even see the launch of a new Apple Silicon iMac. We will know on Jun 7.
