Sennheiser launches S$1,999 flagship in-ear headphones and S$199 true wireless earbuds

German audio brand Sennheiser has launched its flagship audiophile in-ear headphones in Singapore with the new IE 900.

This pair of in-ear headphones comes with Sennheiser’s proprietary X3R transducer. It is a refined version of Sennheiser’s 7mm audiophile Extra Wide Band (XMB) transducer. It has been engineered for tighter tolerances and tuned to achieve even greater audio fidelity.

According to the audio specialist, this single-driver technology actually offers greater audio fidelity than multi-driver technology found commonly in today’s audio gear.

In addition, the IE 900’s housings are milled from a single block of aluminium to achieve the highest audio fidelity. The housings feature a triple-chamber absorber system that combines with an acoustic vortex milled into the nozzle to counter the audio masking effect.

This “masking” phenomenon arises when a faint but audible sound becomes inaudible due to the presence of another louder audible sound. By removing the energy from masking resonances, the triple-chamber absorber system prevents undesired peaks, making even the subtlest nuances of sound audible.

A newly-developed membrane foil provides a high degree of inner dampening, ensuring minimised natural resonances and distortion. With a frequency response of 5Hz to 48,000Hz, the IE 900 is said to reveal even the finest details in any music. In short, the IE 900 is able to offer natural high-end sound reproduction.

Not to mention, audiophiles will love the fact that this pair of premium in-ear headphones features plenty of wired options including an unbalanced cable with a 3.5mm connector and balanced cables with 2.5mm and 4.4mm connectors. Furthermore, these para-aramid-reinforced cables can withstand thousands of bending cycles.

For a comfortable and secure fit, the IE 900 offers adjustable ear hooks as well as silicone and memory foam ear adaptors in three sizes.

All these fine details and features add up to the IE 900’s jaw-dropping price of S$1,999 (available in Sennheiser Store). But for audiophiles, this price might not too much to pay for the fidelity and quality of the audio it is capable to produce.

In other Sennheiser news, its new CX True Wireless Earbuds (S$199) is now available for pre-orders exclusively on Amazon.sg from today till Jul 6.
