When Dyson announced the HushJet Mini Cool, my first reaction was probably the same as everyone else’s.
“That’s a lot of money for a handheld fan.”
At S$149, it costs significantly more than the portable fans you’ll find on Shopee, Lazada or even at your nearest electronics store. So the real question isn’t whether it works. The real question is whether it works well enough to justify the Dyson price tag.
After spending time with it, I think the answer depends entirely on what you’re looking for.

First Impressions
There’s no mistaking this for anything other than a Dyson product.
The HushJet Mini Cool looks sleek, premium and surprisingly compact. At just 212g, it’s light enough to throw into a bag without thinking twice about it.
What I immediately appreciated was that it doesn’t look like a typical handheld fan. Whether that’s a good thing or not will come down to personal taste, but it definitely feels more polished than most portable fans on the market.
The build quality is exactly what you’d expect from Dyson. Nothing rattles, nothing feels flimsy, and the rotating nozzle has a satisfying level of resistance when adjusting airflow direction.

Cooling Performance
This is where the HushJet Mini Cool starts to justify its existence.
Most portable fans create a broad, gentle breeze. The Dyson takes a different approach.
The airflow is much more focused and concentrated, which means you feel the cooling effect almost immediately when it’s directed at your face or neck.
Walking outdoors in Singapore’s humidity, I found myself reaching for this more often than expected. Waiting for a Grab, standing on an MRT platform or walking between buildings suddenly felt much more bearable.
The Boost mode is particularly impressive for something this size. For a handheld fan, it pushes out a surprising amount of airflow.
That said, physics is still physics.
It’s excellent at cooling you. It’s not going to cool an entire room.
Desk Fan Mode
One thing I wasn’t expecting to use much was the charging stand.
After a few days, it ended up becoming my default desk fan.
Because the nozzle rotates 360 degrees, it’s easy to angle airflow exactly where you want it. Whether you’re working from home or sitting at an office desk, it works surprisingly well as a personal cooling fan.
Would I replace a proper desk fan with it?
Probably not.
But for personal cooling while working, it does the job decently.
Battery Life
Dyson claims up to six hours of runtime, although that depends heavily on the fan speed you’re using.
In reality, I found battery life perfectly acceptable for what this product is designed to do.
Most people aren’t running a handheld fan continuously for six hours anyway.
For commuting, lunch breaks, outdoor events and short walks between locations, I never found myself worrying about battery life.
USB-C charging also means one less proprietary cable to carry around.
The Part Nobody Talks About
The HushJet Mini Cool is supposed to be quieter than traditional handheld fans, and on lower settings it does a respectable job.
However, once you start pushing the higher airflow settings, you will definitely hear it.
The noise isn’t unpleasant, but it isn’t silent either.
Personally, I think most people would happily trade a little more noise for the level of airflow this thing produces.
Still, it’s worth knowing before buying.
Is It Worth S$149?
This is where things get tricky.
If you’re purely looking for a fan that moves air from point A to point B, there are plenty of alternatives available for a fraction of the price.
Those fans will cool you down too.
What you’re paying for here is:
- better design
- better build quality
- stronger airflow
- Dyson branding
- a more premium overall experience
Whether those things matter is entirely personal.
I found myself liking the HushJet Mini Cool more than I expected because it fits naturally into everyday life. It lives in a bag, sits on a desk, comes out during commutes and gets used often enough that it doesn’t feel like a gimmick.
At the same time, I wouldn’t pretend it’s a necessity.
Who Should Buy It?
The HushJet Mini Cool makes the most sense if:
- you’re outdoors frequently
- you commute regularly
- you value design and build quality
- you already enjoy Dyson products
- you want a portable fan that feels premium
If your goal is simply staying cool occasionally, there are cheaper options that will achieve a similar result.

Yay or Nay?
After spending time with the HushJet Mini Cool, I understand exactly who it’s for.
It’s not trying to be the best value handheld fan on the market.
It’s trying to be the nicest handheld fan you can carry around every day.
The cooling performance is genuinely impressive for its size. The design looks great. The build quality feels premium. The versatility of using it handheld or on a desk adds more value than I initially expected.
But it is still a S$149 portable fan.
If you have the budget and appreciate well-designed gadgets, this is an easy Yay.
If you’re simply looking for the most cost-effective way to stay cool, you’ll probably be better served by something in a lower price range.
