The new MacBook Pro features the M4 family of chips

In the latest announcement from Apple, the new MacBook Pro was unveiled with a whole family of M4 chips. Apple introduced the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips in the same announcement, and here’s a little TLDR about the new MacBook Pro.

M4 Family of Chips

The M4 family makes for the most advanced lineup of chips for a personal computer. If you’re wondering which MacBook Pro you should get, here’s a little breakdown.

MacBook Pro with M4

The 14″ MacBook Pro with M4 is perfect for entrepreneurs, students, creators, and everyone, really. Housing a powerful 10-core CPU, with 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores, the new MacBook Pro with M4 also comes with a faster 10-core GPU and starts with 16GB of unified memory with support for up to 32GB. With M4, the new MacBook Pro is now up to 1.8x faster than the 13″ MacBook Pro with M1. With a Neural Engine that is over 3x more powerful than in M1, its perfect for features in the all-new Apple Intelligence and other AI workloads.

MacBook Pro with M4 Pro

Perfect for researchers, developers, engineers, creative powerhouses, or anyone that requires even faster performance for demanding workflows, MacBook Pro with M4 Pro provides that boost in performance. It features a powerful 14-core CPU with 10 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores for a leap in multicore performance. With a 20-core GPU that is twice as powerful as M4, the MacBook Pro with M4 Pro gets a massive 75% increase in memory bandwidth when compared to the previous generation. The new MacBook Pro with M4 chip is now up to 3x faster than models with M1 Pro, making workflows like geo mapping, structural engineering, data modelling and more way faster.

MacBook Pro with M4 Max

Specifically designed for pros like data scientists, 3D artists, and composers who constantly push workflows to the limit, MacBook Pro with M4 Max enables users to work on projects that were previously only possible on a desktop. M4 Max brings up performance by a full notch – with a 16-core CPU, up to a 40-core GPU, and over half a terabyte per second of unified memory bandwidth, and a Neural Engine over 3x faster than M1 Max. With M4 Max, MacBook Pro delivers up to 3.5x the performance of M1 Max, making heavy creative workloads like visual effects, 3D animation, and film scoring that much easier on the go.

Connectivity

Thunderbolt 5 finally comes to the MacBook Pro with M4 Pro and M4 Max, doubling transfer speeds to up to 120GB/s. This enables users to experience faster external storage, and unlock powerful docking and hub solutions. By connecting a single cable, music producers can now light up their entire studio. All MacBook Pro models feature an HDMI port that supports up to 8K resolution, a SDXC card slot, a MagSafe 3 port for charging, and a headphone jack.

Pricing & Availability

The 14″ MacBook Pro with M4 starts at S$2,199, the 14″ MacBook Pro with M4 Pro starts at S$2,749, and the 16″ MacBook Pro starts at S$3,499.
