Xiaomi has just launched its latest flagship smartphone series, the Xiaomi 13 Series, in Singapore. The company collaborated with Leica to provide users with a unique smartphone photography experience. The Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro models are co-engineered with Leica and feature professional optical lenses, advanced computational and software capabilities, and premium features such as the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 and Xiaomi’s Surge battery management system. The launch event was attended by guests, media, and partners who gained insights into the technology and partnership behind the series, including a presentation by Leica Camera Ambassador Bobby Kiran Yeo, who shared his photography experience and showcased his photographs captured with the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
Master-level photography with Leica co-engineered camera system
Xiaomi has collaborated with Leica to create a professional-grade smartphone photography experience for its latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. Every aspect of the camera system, including hardware, image quality, and UI/UX design, has been developed in partnership with Leica. Both smartphones feature a triple camera setup with Leica optical lenses.
The Xiaomi 13 Pro boasts the Leica Vario-Summicron 1:19-2.2/14-75 ASPH. camera system, which covers focal lengths from 14mm to 75mm. This system includes a 23mm wide-angle main camera with a large 1-inch IMX989 sensor, a 75mm floating telephoto camera, and a 14mm ultra-wide angle camera. The IMX989 sensor is the largest sensor ever used in a smartphone and captures colorful images with distinct contrast and defined textures that reveal fine details.
The new 75mm telephoto lens on the Xiaomi 13 Pro utilizes DSLR-level internal focusing technology and a floating lens design to achieve a focal range from 10cm to infinity, perfect for capturing stunning portraits and close-ups. The Xiaomi 13 features an optical zoom range of 0.6x to 3.2x and also has a 75mm telephoto lens. Both smartphones offer a wide range of camera settings and a master-lens system for capturing perfect portraits.
Users can also choose between two distinct photographic styles, Leica Authentic Look and Leica Vibrant Look, which offer different levels of saturation. The smartphones also feature Leica Filters, Leica watermark, and the classic Leica shutter sound. Overall, Xiaomi and Leica’s collaboration has resulted in a smartphone camera system that offers an authentic Leica experience with advanced computational and software capabilities.
