Microsoft announces its utilization of conversational AI to develop a novel method of web browsing, allowing users to interact with Bing using a ChatGPT-like experience, posing inquiries and receiving answers in a more natural language format.
Microsoft has unveiled a renovated version of its search engine, Bing, which will now be powered by a more advanced AI technology that drives the chatbot, ChatGPT. The company has also launched AI-enhanced features for the Edge browser to provide users with a fresh and innovative way of browsing the web and searching for information online.
Microsoft demonstrated a range of search queries, including requests for recipes, travel advice, and furniture shopping from Ikea. During one demonstration, Bing was asked to plan a five-day itinerary for Mexico City. The chatbot provided a complete answer, including a rough itinerary and links to additional resources.
In contrast to ChatGPT, the new Bing can also provide updated news on recent events. The Verge conducted several demonstrations where the search engine was able to answer questions about its own launch by referencing news articles published within the last hour.
The updated version of Bing is now available for desktop users as a limited preview, but users are restricted to asking a set list of predetermined queries and receiving identical results each time. Interested users can sign up for the waitlist to obtain full access in the future.
AI is here to stay and we’re all here for it, especially if it’s improving our quality of life.
